bite the bullet...

We finally bit the bullet and booked a vacation.  I cannot express how excited I am.  I won't tell you yet where we're going.  You'll have to wait until we're back and I have a million pictures to share!  My husband and I have been talking about doing this trip forever.  Every year, we seem to come up with one reason or another why we should not go.  I can hardly believe that we finally booked something!

In that spirit, I saw a few of these pictures on Pinterest and could not agree more.

sleep deprived...

Lately, I have been working a lot at my job.  As a result, I have not gotten much sleep and all I want to do is bury myself in bed and chill there for two days.  It sounds weird but I have caught myself daydreaming about sleeping!  With this in mind, I thought it would be a perfect time to share some really comfy looking beds.

I am seriously contemplating getting this pintuck comforter from West Elm!

valentine's day recap...

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day last week!  This year, my husband and I agreed to make our gifts for each other.  I think the process and result was more fun this way because it took thought, creativity, and effort.  Here is what we ended up with...

I came home from work to a nice surprise of a candy stand and a bouquet of roses.  This table was set-up literally right in front of the door.

And if that was not enough, he also put together a fondue dinner!  The food was yummy and the dinner was a million times better than going to some crowded restaurant for an overpriced meal.

We have been working on filling up some of the empty space on our walls so I decided to make my husband a couple of signs.  The first was a framed quote from The Help.  This was one of those "girly" movies I made my husband watch with me.  He ended up liking the movie and for some reason, this quote stuck with him and he says it to me randomly sometimes, southern accent and all.  I thought it would be a perfect thing to hang up in our home.  The frame was from Home Goods and I put the sign together using fonts I downloaded from dafont and printed on card stock.

The second gift was a shadowbox displaying the places that are significant to us.  The shadowbox was also from Home Goods.  I simply printed maps of the relevant cities on card stock and cut them out in heart shapes.  There is a heart for where we met, our first date, our first apartment, where we got engaged, where we married, our honeymoon, and our first home.

Here is a closer look.

Here are the two signs together.

dressed in black...

Did anyone check out the Grammy's this past weekend?  Was it just me or were a lot of people wearing black?  Here are just a few examples...

My favorite was Faith Hill's little black dress.  Anyway, I guess it is no surprise that black was the "go to" color for these artists.  It is chic, flattering, and timeless and when used correctly in a room it can make a space look as good as these celebrities.  Here are some rooms in classic black...

iron canopy beds...

One of my favorite stores to drool in is Restoration Hardware.  I love all their industrial style and wood furniture.  Here are a some items off their website.

Beautiful right?  I can't tell you how excited I was when they opened a Restoration Hardware Outlet at the Camarillo Premium Outlets.  Deals on Restoration Hardware furniture within driving distance is dangerous for my wallet.  Anyway, right now my favorite is this amazing metal bed.

I love iron canopy beds.  They make such a statement in a room and are great for master bedrooms.  Here are some other examples...

color psychology...

So the other day I wrote about red rooms for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday.  You can check out the post {here}.  Looking at all those red rooms made me wonder if I could actually be surrounded by such a strong color for a length of time.   Colors in a room can, in fact, impact your mood.  Whether the impact is positive or negative depends on the shade you choose and in which room you use the color.  Check out these rooms and let me know how you feel.

Dark blues and black can have a sedative effect on your mood.  Dark shades can make a space feel smaller and more intimate but can also invoke feelings of sadness and depression.

Bold shades of red, yellow, and orange are very stimulating and can increase the energy level in a room.  Yellow is associated with happiness and sunshine and can spark creative and intellectual energy.    Red can increase your appetite.  These colors work best in dining areas, breakfast nooks, and sunrooms.  However, too much red or yellow can bring up feelings of frustration, irritation, or impatience.

Taking it down a notch to a pink color can bring on more soothing, calming, or warm feelings.

Warm shades of green, and blue are the best choices to create a calm, soothing, and relaxing effect.  These colors are perfect for spaces such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms because you want these spaces to feel tranquil and inviting.

Cream or white colors bring feelings of peace, purity, and comfort.  Along with tan shades, these colors are the most popular and versatile wall colors for a room.

valentine's day gifts...

I was looking around Etsy the other day for Valentine's Day gift ideas.  If you have not been to this website before, you have to check it out.  It is one of my favorite places to get handmade and vintage items.  Here are a few cute Valentine's Day themed gifts I saw on there.

super bowl...

Since the Super Bowl is coming up this weekend, I thought I would share some perfect rooms for gathering good friends, yummy food, and kicking back to watch the big game.  For those of you who aren't big sports fans, these would also be great rooms for a movie night!
