carrot dog treats...

On New Year's Day, our dog Tater turned three.  If you follow this blog or know me personally, you would know that we are big dog lovers in our house.  Therefore, naturally, we do mini birthday celebrations for our dogs.  This year, I  decided to bake Tater some carrot dog treats.  The treats do not look or taste like much (yes I tried a little) but our dogs LOVE these.

Here are Panda and Tater patiently waiting for the go ahead to eat their treats.

As you can see, they were a hit.

Here is the recipe:

1 cup whole wheat or white flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup of shredded carrots
1 egg
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Grease cake pan.  I used 4 parts of a muffin pan but you could also use an 8"x 4" loaf pan or 8" round cake pan.
  3. Mix the flour and baking soda in a medium size mixing bowl.
  4. Beat the egg and add to the flour mixture.
  5. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until combined.
  6. Spoon into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 25 - 30 minutes (until an inserted toothpick comes out clean).
  8. Cool on wire rack for 10 minutes.
